Carolyn Elizabeth (Childs) Dorsey

Carolyn Childs Dorsey, 80, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, surrounded by her loving husband, three children, and other beloved family members. A private family gathering will be held on July 6, 2026, at Carolyn's favorite restaurant. Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to All Faith Funeral Services.

Carolyn was born on August 9, 1945, in Warner Robins, Georgia, to Thomas and Florence Barnes Childs Simmons. She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas Childs and Florence Barnes Childs Simmons; her sister, Sally Childs Peacock; and her brother, Thomas O. Childs III.

Carolyn met and married the love of her life, Garrett, in Florida, and together they shared more than 60 wonderful years of marriage. While living in Florida, they were blessed with three children. The family later moved to Texas, where Carolyn owned and operated a flower shop before eventually settling in Gilmer. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Texas at Tyler in 1993.

Carolyn was deeply committed to public service and civic involvement throughout her life. In 1992, she proudly served as a national delegate for President George H. W. Bush at the Republican National Convention in Houston.

From 1997 to 2007, Carolyn served on the staff of Texas State Representative Gene Seaman, representing District 32. She also worked with the Padre Island Business Association on the Packery Channel initiative, an effort that helped improve the Corpus Christi coastal community. In 2017, she served as a member of the Texas Silver-Haired Legislature, continuing her lifelong dedication to serving others.

Carolyn will be lovingly remembered by her devoted husband, Garrett F. Dorsey; her children, Garrett Dorsey III, Catherine Morales, and Gregory Dorsey; her sisters, Barbara Lemaich and Theresa Mize; her 11 grandchildren; and her three great-grandchildren.

Carolyn's life was defined by her love for her family, her unwavering commitment to public service, and her generous spirit. Her kindness, strength, and dedication touched countless lives, and she leaves behind a lasting legacy that will be cherished by all who knew and loved her.
