Charles Edward Herschbach Jr, 62, of Corpus Christi, Texas, passed away Sunday, January 16, 2022. Known by many as Charlie, he was born in Kenedy, Texas on August 15, 1959, to Charles E. Herschbach Sr (May 30, 1928 – September 21, 1996) and Susan E. Herschbach.
Charlie leaves behind his two children; Charles E. Herschbach III and Jacqueline R. Herschbach, along with his five grandchildren; Maiah, Charles IV, and Mikaela Herschbach, and George and Justin Salas. He also leaves behind two younger brothers, two younger sisters, a half-brother and their families.
Graduate of Tuloso-Midway, he was well-known as the DJ from the original Skateland and was a volunteer firefighter for many years. Charlie began his career at CCAD as a sheet metal mechanic in 1981. In 1990/91 during Desert Storm, he went TDY to repair the aircrafts for the troops. After 35 long years with CCAD, he finally retired in 2016 as an Aircraft Production Controller. Over the last 20 plus years, he became one of the popular faces, and enthusiastic voices, of the Texas Jazz Festival. A part of the organizations board, and logistics director, he helped get vendors and performers stationed where they needed to be. Charlie knew how to get the crowd going before each set when announcing each musician, often losing his voice by the end of the three-day festival, but he loved it. He also became a part of the Patriot Guard Riders, where he proudly road alongside his guard brothers paying respect to fallen soldiers at funerals and other events. Charlie was a man who gave his all in everything he did, and he will be dearly missed by many.
Charlie did not wish to have a funeral or services upon his passing. To honor him, a memorial will be set up at the Texas Jazz Festival in October 2022.
In lieu of flowers, we ask that you please make a donation in his name to one of the following organizations he proudly supported: Texas Jazz Festival Society Kathy Reyes, 361/739-4898 or Patriot Guard Riders of South Texas (PGRSTX) - Albert Martinez. (See links below).
