Dale Mikkelson Obituary

Dale Cameron Mikkelson, lost his long battle to Cancer on November 23, 2024, at the age of 66.

Dale was born in Alexandria Minnesota, to Ole and Carolyn Mikkelson. Dale spent his childhood playing many sports including Basketball, baseball and football. Dale graduated from Minneapolis Roosevelt High School in 1976. In high school he enjoyed high jump and tied for 2nd in the city of Minneapolis, jumping 6' and he was only 5'10". Great achievement jumping higher than his height.

In April of 1977 Dale signed his papers for in the United States Air Force. He did his Basic Military Training in the 3723rd squadron. He served in the Air Education Training Command from May through September '77. Dale traveled throughout his military career including in Misawa, Japan, with the 6920th Electronic Security Group from October '77-April -80, and in Osan, Korea, with the 6903rd Electronic Security Squadron from April '80- April '82. After his service in Korea, he came back to the states and was stationed in Homestead, Florida as part of the 6947th Electronic Security Squadron.

Dale enjoyed the Orient during his service time and decided to go to Clark Air Force Base in the Philippines, from '84-'87 as part of the 6922nd Electronic Security Group. After his tour was completed in the Philippines, he came back to the states and was stationed at Kelly Air Force Base, San Antonio, TX, as part of the 6948th Electronic Security Squadron, from '87- '94 where he retired after 17 years.

Dale stayed in Texas as he liked the warmer weather, and his sister, Cheryl, was fairly close. He worked for security armored car service until 2003 before deciding to go out on the open road and drive an 18-wheeler. He drove cross country and into Canada from 2003 until 2017.

Dale was first diagnosed with Colon Cancer in 2016 and had his first surgery while on the road. In 2017 he was no longer eligible for his class A license and was forced to medically retire.

Dale is preceded in death by his parents, Cameron and Carolyn Mikkelson, brother Terry and grandparents.

He is survived by siblings, Kathy Hurd of Kansas City, MO, David, (JoAnne) of Woodbury, MN, Cheryl (Joe) Longwell of Taft, TX. Rick of Brooklyn Park, MN, and sister-in-law, Lynn of Maple  Grove; eight nieces and nephews Karsta, Matthew, Kristen, Daniel (Lindsay), Kimberly (Kevin), Charles, Kellie (Billie) and Chad (Samantha) 14 great nieces and nephews, many cousins and friends, Special winter roommate cousin Steve Chapman and special friend Joyce West.

The Graveside Service will be December 5th, 2024, 10:00 AM at the Coastal Bend VA Cemetery followed by Visitation Luncheon at First Baptist Church Taft, 420 Green Ave, Taft, Texas

Pallbearers will be The Patriot Riders Group.

Arrangements and care entrusted to All Faith Cremation and Funeral Service.

In lieu of flowers Dale has requested donations to Wounded Warriors, Disabled Veterans or St. Jude’s Hospital.
