Emilio Z. Peña Sr., 83, passed peaacefully on June 8, 2024 at his home surrounded by his family who loved him dearly.
He was born in 1940 to the late Ubaldo and Elvira Peña. He is preceded in death by his siblings, Fidencio (Antonia), Ysidro (Fela), Ubaldo, Jr., Federico (Dora) Peña and Eva (Juan) Perez.
He is survived by his wife Mary Lou "Lucy" Peña, his three children, Emilio Jr. (Karla) Peña, Rachel (Alfredo) Flores and Jacob (Julia) Peña, his siblings Luis (Emma) and Ramon Peña and Conrada (Alfredo) Maldonado, 8 grandsons, 2 granddaughters, 7 great-grandsons and 3 great-granddaughters and numerous nieces and nephews.
He enlisted in the United States Army in 1960. He was in the Army for 3 years and served a tour at the US Army Garrison Baumholder in Germany. After being honorably discharged, he attended vocational school in Florida. He earned his certification as a heavy equipment operator and was also a Union Carpenter. He was a skilled and avid craftsman who enjoyed restoring cars, boats and all sorts of mechanical devices. He was also an outdoorsman, enjoying going fishing, camping, swimming and hiking with his family.
Emilio Sr. married Mary Lou "Lucy" Lara in 1971. They were lovingly married for 53 years. He was an exemplary husband, father and grandfather. He gave his children an idyllic childhood filled with love, laughter and unwavering support. He continued this tradition with his grandchildren, taking them to the beach, baseball games, and waterparks among other outings. His best example by far was that of a devout Catholic. He spent many years as a member of St. Vincent de Paul Society and as an Usher at Immaculate Conception Parish. He remained a shining example of unwavering faith and strength until his final breath. While his family and friends will miss him immensely, they rejoice knowing that he is in our Heavenly home and look forward to being reunited with him one day.
