George Kelly Obituary

George A. Kelly, Jr.

ROCKPORT, TX - George A. Kelly, Jr., age 91, passed away peacefully on January 28, 2024, at Gulf Pointe Plaza in Rockport, Texas. He was born on February 24, 1932, in Shreveport, Louisiana, to George Kelly and Lola Ferguson Kelly.

George had a remarkable life filled with adventure and love. After a 45-year career as a geologist in the oil industry, he retired to Rockport, where he pursued his passions. He enjoyed fishing the coastal waters and spending time at his own dock on the canal, often with his favorite cigar. George and his wife Jimmie enjoyed many years of traveling out West to the National Parks planning their stops at or near casinos where they spent lots of fun times playing the slot machines. They began cruising, visiting many countries and islands around the world. Alaska held a special place in their hearts, and they revisited it several times.

As a youngster growing up on a farm, George developed a love for hunting, fishing, and riding his horse, Teddy. As a dedicated father, he spent countless hours driving the boat round and round at the lake so his sons and their friends could waterski. However, being a Pop to his grandchildren brought him the most joy. He enjoyed visiting them, following his grandson's college football team, taking them fishing, teaching them to throw a cast net or simply enjoying an ice cream cone together. George was immensely proud of his children and grandchildren, and he eagerly shared their accomplishments with anyone who would listen.

George is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Jimmie Kelly. Two sons: Mike Kelly of Ft Worth, TX, and Scott Kelly (Teresa) of Fischer, TX. He will also be fondly remembered by his grandchildren: Matthew Kelly (Kari), Rachel Reddish (Jordan), Nicole Deblois (Blake), Eric Kelly (Abby), and Marisa Kelly (John). His great-grandchildren: Avery Rolls, Savannah Reddish, Kruz, and Karsyn Kelly, will continue to carry his memory.

He was predeceased by his parents, George and Lola Kelly of Mira, LA.

George proudly served his country as a 1st Lieutenant in the US Army Corps of Engineers for two years. He was honorably discharged, leaving a legacy of bravery and dedication to his military service.

A Celebration of Life is planned in Rockport, TX, on February 17, 2024. Family and friends will gather to honor George's life and share cherished memories.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the exceptional nurses and staff of Harbor Hospice in Rockport for their kindness and support over the past 6 months. Their care and compassion made life more manageable during difficult times.
