Harvey White, Jr. 72, passed away on July 5, 2024, in Portland, TX.
Harvey was born on February 8, 1952 in Monroe, LA, to Harvey Edward
White, Sr. and Willie Mae White who welcomed him at Heaven's Gate. He was also preceded in death by many relatives and loved ones.
Harvey grew up in Monroe, LA where he graduated from Neville High School and attended Northeast Louisiana University (ULM). Harvey met his wife, Brenda on a blind date. They married in Corpus Christi, TX on May 6, 1978, where he began his 46 year career in Oil and Gas Exploration.
Harvey has a son, Harvey Edward (Ned), and a daughter (Ashley) White, III of Monroe, LA from a previous marriage and two children with Brenda: Brandon Joseph White of Taft, TX and Ashley (Chisum) Cooke of Bulverde, TX.
Harvey is survived by his children; his sister, Dianne Cromwell; of Monroe, LA his grandchildren; Rylee, Charlotte, Sarah and Emmalee Cooke of Bulverde, TX, Brighton (Reed) Robertson of Franklin, TN and Nolan Thompson of Monroe, LA; great-grandchildren, Merris and David Robertson of Franklin, TN; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Harvey loved his family, friends and the great outdoors. He was passionate about hunting and fishing and enjoyed sharing his passion with his children and their friends. He enjoyed playing tennis and was the loudest player on the court according to some highly credible golfers. He liked working in his vegetable garden and sharing his bounty with friends and neighbors. He was always in a private contest to have a better crop than his farmer friends, Johnny and Joe, which was never going to happen. He recently started planting extra flowers in the beds for Brenda and left her a beautiful reminder of how much he loved her. Sitting on the patio, admiring the beautiful view of the bay and bird watching, holding a generous glass of wine, was a mandatory daily event. His family and friends will always remember him for his love of story telling and tall tale telling. He skirted around a few rules now and then and always had a joke to tell. And last but not least, the most memorable thing about Harvey was his enormous belly laugh. If his joke was not funny, no problem, he was going to break out into an uncontrollable laughing, coughing, fit anyway and then, you could't help but join him.
Harvey loved to start his day with God, in his favorite chair on the patio, overlooking the bay, early every morning, with his devotional and a cup of coffee. Then he would start making phone calls to a few of his friends, who will dearly miss their daily talks. His fun loving spirit, mild irreverence and contagious laughter will be missed by all.
