Herman Grimes Obituary

Herman Grimes Jr., 76, was a beloved father, brother, uncle, grandfather, and friend, that went to be with the Lord on the morning of Saturday November 5, 2022, in George West, TX.

Herman Grimes Jr. was born to Mollie and Herman Grimes Sr. on April 7, 1946, in Jacksonville, Texas.

Herman leaves his precious memories to be cherished by his daughter, Nikia Simpson, two sons, Joshua Grimes, and Jason Grimes Sr., his two sisters, Ella Mae Sherrad and Linda Hill, his eight grandchildren, Ashleigh Hanson, Tyler Jefferson, Michael Grimes, Mathew Simpson, Zachariah Simpson, Aleia Grimes, Makaila Grimes, and Jason Grimes Jr. (JJ), and host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Herman attended Santa Ana Valley High School, in Santa Ana, California, class of 1964. Soon after, he found his way to Portland, Oregon where he attended Portland State University and acquired an associate degree in accounting and finance. Herman would continue to call Portland home for the next 46 years and become a successful local businessman and entrepreneur. Herman's true calling, and one he was most proud of, was starting his own management consulting business, Grimes & Associates LLC. Herman also enjoyed sharing his knowledge as a business advisor & instructor for Small Business Develpment center at Mt. Hood community College in Gresham, Oregon. He was a great leader, mentor and counselor with passion, resourcefulness, a willingness to improvise and listen to others, and a strong determination to succeed in everything that he put his mind too.

Herman was best known for his love of the Lord, family, and friends. He enjoyed spending time with family and being a grandpa, playing golf, naps in the parks, drives to the Oregon Coast, walks through Washington rose garden and attending church, jazz festivals, and most of all attending a men's prayer group. His health was very important to him. He was always at the gym or running somewhere in a park. But he did have a weakness for sweets.

Anyone who knew Herman, knew that he was an outgoing God-fearing man with a wonderful sense of humor and most loving father and friend that anyone could ask for and he was always a blessing with his generosity towards others. He was force of nature, determined to provide for his family and give them the life they deserved. One of his favorite scriptures from the Bible, was "But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus." -Philippians 4:19 KJV

Herman is preceded in death by his parents, Mollie and Herman Grimes Sr., sisters, Ruth Ann (DeDe), Donna Lee Akala, brothers, Odis Grimes, and Charles Grimes.

He will always be in our hearts and never forgotten. May the Lord hold him tight.

There will be no formal services or visitation held for Herman.

A Virtual Celebration of Herman's life is in the works.  Details will be announced once arrangements have been made.
