Hollis Ray Porcher passed on July 12, 2022 in Rockport, Texas. He was born December 18, 1926 in Corpus Christi, Texas to George and Ella Porcher. His parents and older brother Robert Porcher precede him in death. He is survived by six children, seven grandchildren, two great grandsons, three nieces, and his younger brother George "Butch" Porcher Jr and wife, Molly Porcher.
Hollis was married three times: Sylvia, their children Bruce, Nancy and Patricia; Georgia Lynn, their children James, Marcy and Christopher; and Joyce Horsman in the twilight years of their lives. His beloved Joyce preceded him in death in April 2022.
In 1943, Hollis graduated two years early from Corpus Christi High School. He later attended the University of Texas in Austin and Del Mar College. Hollis served in the Army and spent a year in Korea during peace times. He then went on to serve in the Air Force Reserve. Airplanes were a lifelong passion having received his pilot's license in 1946. He went on to purchase a two-seater which he flew all over the state and out over the gulf many times.
In 1953, he joined Sechrist-Hall Roofing, eventually becoming President, then CEO. After 37 years, he retired and continued to work as a roofing consultant for 15 years or more as he always enjoyed it. He joined Kiwanis in 1966 and was active for 50+ years. His father had been a member in the 1930s. He also served on the Board of Directors for the YMCA and Camp Fire Girls.
He was a lifelong member of the First Presbyterian Church, following his parents. Remembrances of Hollis may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 430 Caranchua St., Corpus Christi, Texas 78401. There are no memorial services planned.
