James Burton Obituary

James Allen Burton Sr.
June 22, 1940 - December 31, 2024

It is with heavy hearts and joyous memories that we announce the passing of our dad, grandpa, great-grandpa, husband, and brother, James Allen Burton Sr. James passed peacefully on December 31, 2024, at the age of 84, after battling Parkinson's disease. He was surrounded by those who loved him dearly including his beloved dog Button.

Born in Yonkers, NY, on June 22, 1940, "Jimmy" was one of five siblings: Harry, Kenny, and Bobby, all of whom preceded him in death, and his surviving sister, Janie. After graduating from Catholic Central High School, Jim pursued seminary studies at Siena College, driven by a desire to spread his faith in Jesus Christ. However, he was later drafted into the U.S. Army, where he served as a field technician. During his service, Jim earned sharpshooter status as a marksman, which many would say compares to some of his defining characteristics. Jim was a man with a high level of concentration, patience, and a calm demeanor under pressure.

Jim's adult career began at New York Telephone as a lineman, working his way up to a district level manager position. Later, Jim retired from Skidmore College, where he served as the lead IT administrator.

Jim was a devoted husband to his first wife, Diane, with whom he shared 23 years of marriage before her passing in 1987. He was also a loving father to his children-his greatest achievements: Mary (Andy), James Jr., David (Andrea), and Debbie. After Diane's passing, Jim married his second wife, Bonnie, and embraced his role as a stepfather to Scott (Jeanne), Dana (Keith), and Stephanie (Nate). Over the years, Jim's family expanded to include his 10 beautiful grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. His unwavering devotion to those he loved was one of his defining qualities-always providing, caring, loyal, and offering a quiet strength in everything he did.

Jim kept life simple, finding joy and camaraderie in the harmony of barbershop singing, using his bass voice with the Racing City Chorus. He also had several other hobbies such as golf, fishing, square dancing and karaoke. Although Jim had a deep, stern voice, it never overshadowed the quiet man he was - always giving "the room" to others and supporting those he loved most. Jim enjoyed his retirement, moving from Saratoga Springs, NY, to the warmth of Texas with his wife Bonnie of 36 years. Together they shared an unbreakable bond to each other.

Jim's wishes were for no services, however the family asks you to propose a toast each New Year's Eve in his memory. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be given to Summit Hospice of Corpus Christi, a cause that was important to both Jim and Bonnie.

James Allen Burton Sr. leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion to his family. Jim's memory will be cherished by all who were fortunate enough to have known, loved, and laughed with him.

We love you, Dad, Pop, Papa, James, Jim, and "Jimmy" and wish you serenity in the Kingdom of God with Jesus Christ."
