James Ronald Jones
Obituary

James Ronald "Ronny" Jones, aka Pops & "Ho-Ho", passed away peacefully Monday, December 19, 2023, with his family by his side after a brief illness.
Ronny was born in Corpus Christi, Texas to Jesse Walter Jones and Crystal Maybelle Stirling Jones on January 30, 1939. He was a graduate of Gregory High School, Gregory, Texas.

On November 29, 1958, Ronny married the love of his life, Jame Blair Furman, in Nuevo Laredo, Mexico. They had just celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary before his passing.

Ronny was a Proud Marine, Mason & Al Amin Shrine Clown for 46 years and a treasured prison Chaplain for over 30 years in Beeville, Texas.

For "Pops" as he was known to his grandchildren, clowning came ever so naturally. He loved people in general and talking to them, ALL of them. He had the "gift of gab" and particularly loved children. Pops was always the first person to sit on the floor to entertain a child. In addition to being a Proud Marine, and an American, he loved his Green Bay Packers, always flying the team flag in his yard. Pops always said "Green Bay always won on his TV".

As a Chaplain, Ronny positively impacted the lives of the prisoners he visited, forging relationships with untrusting, lost and lonely men.

Ronny was an avid collector of random things. He was notorious for collecting items from the side of the road or on the beach. If you needed a rock, a rope, a baseball, a pin, a set of dishes or even old Christmas ornaments, all you had to do was ask Ronny and he probably had it in his pocket or in his truck. And if you were lucky enough, he would pull you aside and try to give you one of the "treasures" had had found.

Pops also kept us all on toes about what he was up to like going sky diving when he had his 80th birthday without telling anyone! He knew Blair wouldn't have allowed him to make that jump!

Ronny was predeceased by both of his parents and his brothers, Robert Henry Jones and Jerry Walter Jones.

He is survived by his wife, Blair, and his children, Christine (Benson) Tuttle, Catherine "Tita" (Clay) Owen and James "Jim" Jones, II. Ronny is also survived by his grandchildren Kim (Jarrett) Hardwick, William Owen, Ronnie (Amanda) Owen, Alyssa (Brad) Waddups and Amy Jones. He also has 8 great-grandchildren, numerous extended family members and more friends than we can count.

The family would like to thank all of the Nurses, Doctors & staff of Harbor Hospice in Portland, Texas, for their kindness and compassion they each showed to our Daddy for the short time he was there.

A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 pm, Friday, December 22, 2023, at Oak Ridge Baptist Church, 2100 Buddy Ganem Road, Portland, Texas. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Shriners Children's Hospital or to your local No-Kill Animal Shelter.
