Jennifer Lauren Barnett passed away on Thursday, Feb. 11, 2021 in Corpus Christi, Texas at the age of 38.
Lauren was born on August 25, 1982 in Austin, Texas. She moved to Corpus Christi in November, 2018.
Lauren loved people and she cherished the simple things in life. She was blessed with a beautiful smile, an infectious laugh, the ability to communicate with people of all ages, and a gorgeous singing voice. She was not only a singer, but a great artist. She enjoyed drawing, designing t-shirts and other items, and she made awesome tie-die shirts and baby clothing. She found extreme joy in gatherings with family and friends. The beach was her favorite place for rest, relaxation and fun! She also had a special love for the naturally cute, tuxedo-adorned penguins. Her collection continued to grow, but her favorite item was a painting done by the birds themselves at Moody Gardens.
Singing was by far, her favorite activity. She sang solos in church as a teen and continued singing through the years in church, at weddings, funerals, parties and family gatherings. She occasionally took the stage with bands in clubs to wail out one of her bluesy tunes. She also loved karaoke. Whether it was backyard karaoke parties or karaoke contests in local pubs or clubs, she was often the envy of every wannabe super vocalist. We all feel certain that she’s already singing heavenly tunes with the angelic choir.
We would have loved many more years with our precious Lauren, but God must have some important plans for her. Our pleasant memories of Lauren and her zest for life will fill the massive holes in our hearts as we think about her daily.
Lauren is survived by her husband, Chris Barnett of Corpus Christi; parents, Kathy and Brad Gabbart of Corpus Christi; sisters, Kelly Santamaria (Joel) and Whitney Holmes (Justin) of Corpus Christi; nephews, Isaac and Alexander Santamaria, Ethan and Everett Holmes, and nieces, Maddie and Evelyn Holmes; her stepsons, Damen and Bobby Barker, and her sweet pup, Penelope. She is preceded in death by her first husband, Harry Barker.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Robert’s Point Pavilion in Port Aransas (in park near ferries) on Saturday, March 6 at 2:00 pm. Because of COVID restrictions, the city is requiring us to follow all COVID guidelines, including masks, social distancing to the extent possible, and a maximum of 50 people in attendance.
