Joe Morris, 86, passed on Friday, September 17, 2021, in Portland Texas. Joe was born on May 2, 1935 in Refugio, Texas to Joe Morris and Ysidra Cano.
Joe attended Roy Miller High School in Corpus Christi, Texas. Soon after, Joe began a career as a musician. Joe would eventually earn his welding certification from SER Jobs for Progress. Joe worked as a welder with various companies until he secured a position with Metals, Inc. as a welding instructor and director. Joe remained employed with Metals, Inc. until his retirement.
In 1952, Joe married Ofelia Herrera. Joe and Ofelia professed their love and commitment to one another at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Gregory, Texas. Joe and Ofelia raised five beautiful children: Joanne M. Serna, Joe M. Morris III, John R . Morris, Joel E. Morris, and James M. Morris.
Joe was best known for his musical talents as a trumpet player, forming his own band during his high school years. Joe also shared his musical talent alongside various orchestras including Oscar Martinez, Pepe Cavazos, Rudy Alvarado, and many others. Joe was a prankster and enjoyed telling jokes and playing jokes on others.
Left to cherish his memory, is his wife, Ofelia Morris, his daughter, Joanne M. Serna, his three sons: John R. Morris, Joel E. Morris, and James M. Morris. Joe is the proud grandfather of 10 grandchildren and great-grandfather of 11 great grandchildren.
Joe is preceded in death by his loving parents, Joe Morris and Ysidra Cano, his son, Joe Morris III, grandson Jon Michael Morris, and daughter in law, Melody (Arredondo) Morris.
Services for Mr. Joe Morris will be held on Saturday, September 25, 2021, at 10 :00 AM at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Gregory, Texas.
Visitation will be held at 10:00AM, with the recitation of the Holy Rosary at 11 AM. Mass will begin immediately thereafter. Interment will follow at Gregory Cemetery, Gregory, Texas.
