John Francis Arguell, 69, of Corpus Christi, Texas, passed away at home on June 22, 2023. He was born in Hollywood, California, on July 15, 1953, to Charles and Betty Arguell.
John is survived by his wife of 31 years, Gaila Reyna-Arguell, brothers Carl Arguell (Mollie) of Hillsborough, New Jersey, and Richard Arguell (Sheri) of Corpus Christi, Texas, sisters-in-law Cynthia Reyna and Rosemary Bernal of Corpus Christi, Texas, Stepchildren James Little (Tara) of Little Rock, Arkansas, Alicia Kolen (Jarvis) of Houston, Texas, Grandchildren Will Little, Serenity, Sofia, and Gabriel Kolen, niece Megan Arguell of Hillsborough, New Jersey, and treasured pet Daisy.
He was predeceased by his parents Charles and Betty Arguell, and beloved dogs Lucy, Beau, Ginger, and JoJo.
John graduated from Richard King High School in Corpus Christi, Texas, in 1971. He received an Associate of Arts degree from Del Mar College in 1985. John had many jobs in his life and most recently retired from CCISD. He loved telling stories about his crime scene technician days with the Corpus Christi Police Department. He enjoyed visiting with everyone and never met a stranger.
John was a long time member of Most Precious Blood Catholic Church, and served as a lector and Eucharistic Minister for over 28 years. He had a special ministry of giving sacramental coins to everyone he met. He loved all animals and was proud to have St. Francis as his patron saint. John and Gaila enjoyed many two-stepping years of country Western dancing, especially to George Strait. John had his pilot's license and loved flying small planes.
The family would like to express gratitude for the extraordinary care provided to John from caregivers Thilda Blanco, Yolanda Elizalde, and Grace Gill, as well as Connie Escalante, R.N., and Kim Tackitt, CNA, of Summit Hospice. The family also thanks Deacon Narciso Ortiz of St. Philip's Catholic Church who visited and brought John communion weekly. John was able to receive communion a few hours before he passed away.
A Rosary will be held June 30, 2023, at 9:30 a.m. at St. Philip's Catholic Church, 3513 Cimarron Blvd, Corpus Christi, Texas, 78414, to be followed by a funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Humane Society of Corpus Christi or Peewee's Pet Adoption.
