CORPUS CHRISTI - It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of an incredible human being, Mr. John Faraone at the age of 84. Mr. Faraone, the son of Joseph Faraone and Vita Aleo and the grandson of Vincent Faraone and Vince Mannina (all born in Italy) was born in Hagar, Berrien, Michigan. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings Jennie Marie (Greco), Francis (Redlick), Vines (Rancina), and Joseph S. Mr. Faraone leaves behind his twin grand nephews Richard Greco and Matthew Greco from El Paso, Texas.
Mr. Faraone had a remarkable career as a successful band director, conductor, and adjudicator. He began his journey after graduating from Coloma High School in Michigan and making his way to Texas to earn a Bachelor of Music Education from the University of Texas-El Paso in 1962. He earned his Master in Music Education from Sul Ross State University in 1976 and followed up with a Conducting degree from Texas Tech University in 1977. Mr. Faraone first began teaching public school in El Paso, Texas at Ysleta High School (1959-1969). The following year he joined the mighty Troopers Nation and taught at Eastwood High School from 1970-1987. Both of these amazing bands won countless supe- rior division ratings under his baton. Mr. Faraone also taught collegiately at Sul Ross State University (1978-1988) Del Mar College (1990-1999), and Texas A&M (2005-2015).
Mr. Faraone touched countless lives of musicians and directors with his musical abilities that resonated across the State of Texas. He spent his retirement years helping others bring their bands to new levels and heights unimagined simply by the sheer gift God bestowed upon him in the most angelic and magical way. No one can forget that Bullhorn during marching season, his right hand man!
Mr. Faraone had other amazing talents and that was his devotion to the Catholic Church. He was a member of Saint Raphael Catholic Church in El Paso and St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church in Corpus Christi. He loved to cook with wine by learning the best secrets from his Italian Parents. Along his journey in life, he traded in the desert with rolling tumbleweeds to the sandy beaches on the Texas Coastline. Anywhere he ventured in life his presence was huge and welcoming. Mr. Faraone simply loved people. Let’s not forget his beloved baseball teams the New York Yankees and Houston Astros! Mr. Faraone will forever be in the hearts of countless people, as a devout Catholic, Teacher, Mentor, Clinician, Musician, and mostly Friend. He will be truly missed.
One last call from Troopers Stadium:
“And now ladies and gentlemen, please welcome home, THE BAND.”
