John (Gizmo) Perry Johnson was born on November 27, 1947 to mother, Ruth Charlotte, and father, James Harlan Johnson in Corpus Christi, Texas. He passed away in his hometown of Ingleside, Texas on September 29, 2021.
After high school, Gizmo enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard in the fall of 1966 where he served proudly for four years. Upon separation, Gizmo worked as a welder and jack of all trades throughout the south Texas area. Gizmo was quite the entrepreneur from a young age. He was known by many and loved by most.
Gizmo was a proud father and grandfather, a faithful friend, a loving brother, and a veteran. He had a big heart and loved fiercely with all of it. He was funny, charming, and sometimes down-right ornery. His feisty spirit will be greatly missed, but lives on through his family and many friends he left behind.
At his request, his final resting place will be Prairie View Cemetery where he worked for several years taking care of the grounds and cutting the grass. A graveside service will be held beneath his favorite tree on Sunday, October 17, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at Prairie View Cemetery located in Aransas Pass. An informal reception will follow at the VFW Post 6386 at 1452 State Highway 361, Ingleside, TX.
