Jose R. Aguilar passed away suddenly on November 26, 2023, at the age of 80, leaving behind a legacy of love and compassion for his wife, family and friends.
Jose also known as "Joe", "Mula" and "Pepe" was born on September 5, 1943, in Mathis, Texas to Pedro S. and Leonor Reyna Aguilar. Jose touched all those who knew him with his warm smile and kind heart.
Jose started working at a young age, and shortly after he graduated from high school, Jose joined the United States Army where he bravely served for our country from 1966 to 1971. After retiring from the United States Army, Jose worked for Ray West Warehouse, Inc. Then, Jose made a career as a welder for Cox Tank Construction from 1976 to 2012, building tanks at various refineries all over Texas, Louisiana, Alabama and Kansas. Even up until the time of his death, Jose was working as a Crossing Guard helping the children from James W. Fannin Elementary safely cross Gollihar Street.
Jose was preceded in death by his parents, Pedro and Leonor Aguilar; his sisters - Petra Tamez, Beatrice A. Tamez, Emma Reyes and Ernestina A. Rodriguez; and his brothers - Manuel R. Aguilar and Baltazar R. Aguilar. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Sylvia I. Aguilar; sister - Felicita Torres; brothers - Gaspar Aguilar, Juan Aguilar (Margie), and Pedro S. Aguilar (Connie); and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.
Though we are heartbroken due to Jose's absence, we find peace knowing that he will live on in the hearts of those he loves most. We will forever cherish our memories of Jose and will honor his memory by striving to live our lives with the same compassion that he so effortlessly showed us. May his soul find eternal peace and may the perpetual light shine upon him.
A rosary, mass and blessing of Jose's ashes was held on December 22, 2023, at Christ the King Church in Corpus Christi, Texas. Interment with military honors will be held on Friday, December 29, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. at the Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery located at 9974 IH-37 Access Road, Corpus Christi, Texas.
