Juliet Cloudt Obituary

Julie Cloudt peacefully crossed-over to Heaven in her home in Rockport, Texas on Sunday, July 27, 2025, surrounded by members of her family, after a year-long battle with Leukemia.

Julie was born on the first day of Spring, March 20, 1947 in Boston, Massachusetts as the youngest of three children and the only girl. When she was nearly 3 her family moved to New Braunfels, Texas, where she spent a happy five years learning to ride horses, raising an orphaned fawn, and swimming in the Guadalupe River.

In 1955, her family moved to Houston, Texas where she later met the love of her life, Chester Cloudt (Chet), at age 13. Julie and Chet got married on August 24, 1968 and nearly 57 blissful years ensued. During that time, a beautiful family unfolded, including two amazing daughters, Kelly Brown (husband Matt) and Catherine Powell (husband Chris) and four beautiful grandchildren, Jacob Brown, 24, Abree Brown, 21, Hannah Powell, 19 and Grant Powell, 13.

In 2009 Julie and Chet moved into their home in Rockport, Texas where they have lived for the past 16 years.  Julie received her bachelor's degree in Secondary Education in 1970 from East Texas State University, followed by two years with Chet on active military service at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, DC. Upon completion of Chet's military service, they returned to Houston, began raising a family and made many life-long friends. She later went back to school at St. Thomas University to extend her teaching certification to include Primary Education, and worked as a substitute teacher. After the kids were off to college, she worked for Cy-Fair ISD for 17 years as a school registrar.

During their retirement years, Julie and Chet traveled extensively in their RV and visited many amazing places in the U.S., with special emphasis on the National Parks and Monuments. They also loved spending time during the summers at various mountain locations such as Crested Butte, CO, Pagosa Springs, CO and Ruidoso, NM.

Julie was a lover of nature and all animals, but especially her "kitties". Over the past 25 years, she and her daughters worked tirelessly with various organizations to trap, neuter and find homes for literally hundreds of stray or feral cats and kittens, including Special Pals in Houston and several organizations in Rockport, including Cat Tales Rescue, Cat Friends Rescue of Rockport-Fulton, The Humane Society and Adoption Center of Rockport Fulton and Aransas County Animal Care Center of Rockport Fulton. While performing these valuable services for the community, she met and shared her skills with many wonderful people who have carried on her legacy. She also volunteered with the Rockport-Fulton Chamber of Commerce for several years, as well as The Aquarium at Rockport Harbor, which she enjoyed sharing with her kids and grandkids. Although Julie was a faithful and courageous advocate for these causes, she always shied away from the limelight saying, "Put me to work but don't try to make me the boss". She only cared about helping and did not need any of the glory. She woke up each day with the goal to make someone smile and was known by all for her own beautiful smile. Julie was truly a wonderful person who loved helping others, as evidenced by the deep and lasting love and admiration of those she leaves behind.

Julie is preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Polly Kefauver and a brother, Tony Kefauver.

She is survived by her husband, children, grandchildren, brother John Preston Kefauver, and many other cherished family members, who will all miss her greatly.

A Celebration of Life service will be held for Julie at St. Peters Episcopal Church, Rockport, TX, Rev. Jim Friedel, officiating at 11:30 am on August 30, 2025, followed immediately by a reception at Rockport Country Club.

As a celebration of Julie's life, in lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to one of the Rockport organizations mentioned above or to an animal rescue of your choosing.
