Larry McKinney, age 80, passed away peacefully at his home in Aransas Pass, Texas, on April 29, 2026.
Larry was born on September 18, 1945, in Towanda, Kansas, to Jack and Marcella McKinney. He lived a life full of creativity, craftsmanship, and deep devotion to those he loved.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Pamela McKinney of Aransas Pass; his son, Brian McKinney of De Soto, Kansas; his daughter, Lisa Smith; his grandchildren, Brianna McKinney, Dylan McKinney, Brenna Stonum, and Aidan Stonum; and his great-grandson, Cedar McKinney.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Marcella McKinney; his son, Adam McKinney; his daughter, Lori Stonum, and Janet McKinney, the mother of his sons, Brian and Adam.
A proud Army National Guardsman, Larry served his country with honor. He was a man of many talents and passions. A gifted musician and singer, he played several instruments including the piano, bass guitar, and banjo. He had a deep love for the ocean and enjoyed spending time at the beach and boating whenever he could.
Larry was also a master carpenter and engineer, known for building homes with his own hands and even constructing a yacht that he once called home. He had a natural ability to create and build, fueled by boundless energy and curiosity. In his later years, he found joy in crafting beautiful jewelry.
He cherished traveling and exploring new places, but above all, he was devoted to his family and friends, who will remember him for his creativity, strength, and generous spirit.
Services for Larry McKinney will be held at a later date. Family members and friends will be notified when arrangements are finalized.
