Luis Manuel Rodriguez

Luis Manuel Rodriguez "Yeyo" was called home by our Lord and entered heaven's gates on September 1, 2024, at the age of 94.

Luis was born in Mayari, Cuba on January 22, 1930 to Lorenzo and Emma Rodriguez.  He was raised in Guantanamo, Cuba.  Luis grew up in a loving family alongside his three siblings on the beautiful island of Cuba.  Later in life, he would go on to make a career in accounting and marry the love of his life, Elsa, on June 21, 1959.  

Luis and Elsa wanted the very best for their young family; therefore, Luis applied to leave Cuba in search of a better life for his family.  He was sent to work in the sugar cane fields for several years before he was granted his exit.  Luis moved to the United States with his wife and children on September 28, 1970.  Initially, their home was in Morris Township, New Jersey where they would be close to loved ones.  The family lived in New Jersey for six years.  Next, Luis established roots in Corpus Christi, Texas.  Here, Luis and Elsa raised their family and remained in Corpus Christi for over 47 years.

A man with an impeccable work ethic, he strived for the best of everything for his family and gave true meaning to "living the American dream."  With a heart of gold and a contagious smile, he lit up any room with his joyful spirit.  Luis loved a good movie, Cuban sandwiches, Cuban coffee and a nice day out fishing.  He enjoyed dancing and could run circles around most of us on the dance floor, even into his later years.

Luis was an amazing storyteller.  He inspired us with his stories of how he overcame many obstacles.  Where many would have folded, he persevered!!!  His values and morals were exemplary of how family unity, hard work and kindness equates to a life filled with happiness!!  Luis, without a doubt, lived a happy life!  

Luis was a loving husband, father, grandfather and a true friend to many.  He will be dearly missed by all who were fortunate to share this life with him. 

Luis is welcomed at the Gates of Heaven by his parents Lorenzo and Emma, his loving wife of 56 years Elsa, his beloved daughter Elsa, his grandson Luis, his sister Mildred and his brother, Lorenzo. 

Left to cherish the endless and treasured memories of Luis are his children, Lidia, Jose (Ana), Rony (Anna), his grandchildren Carlos (Candice), Mikey (Korinn), Joanna (Alex), Corbin and Gavin, his great-grandchildren, Keira, Ezra, Gabriela, Alejandro, Xena, Elias, Cyrus, Isaac, and Jaxon; his sister Vilma, sister-in-law Nedy, as well as many nieces and nephews, extended family and life-long friends, whom he loved very dearly.

A Celebration of Life honoring the life of Luis Rodriguez will be held on Saturday, September 28, 2024 at 3:00 PM at Iglesia La Trinidad, 2634 Tarlton St. Corpus Christi, TX 78416.
