Mackie Buck Obituary

Mackie Joe Buck, of Ingleside, TX, passed away peacefully at age 70 on January 12, 2025. Mackie was born in Hereford, TX on October 5, 1954.

Mackie was a loving husband to Mary (Clark) Buck, the eldest child of Carl and Latain (Garth) Buck, and big brother to Jackie Buck and Jamie Buck. Mackie was the immensely proud father of his children: Cody (Chelsea), Cory (Jessica), Devannie (Johnathan), and stepchildren Austin, Travis, and Kirsten. He never missed an opportunity to discuss their accomplishments when conversing and was very passionate about their achievements. Mackie's children brought to the family 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild on the way.

As a young child, Mackie resided in Hereford, Littlefield, and Muleshoe, TX, before his parent settled in Shallowater, TX. After graduating from Shallowater High School in 1973, Mackie laid roots in Shallowater and became an active participant in the community.

Mackie worked in the sheet metal and air conditioning industry in his younger years. In 1976, Mackie joined the Shallowater Fire Department and began his journey in the fire and medical communities. He became a paramedic and worked for EMS services in Shallowater, TX, and Lubbock, TX. dedicating years to serving Shallowater and surrounding communities through his service with the fire department and EMS. Mackie would come to proudly serve as Fire Chief of Shallowater, retiring in 2011. In 1992, Mackie graduated from Methodist School of Nursing, earning the title and skill of a Registered Nurse. Mackie had extensive experience within the nursing field. Throughout his nursing career, he provided care in the Surgical ICU, Burn ICU, Emergency Department, Neonatal ICU, and Hospice.

Mackie lived life to the fullest, doing the things he loved. If there was adrenaline involved, Mackie was a willing participant. He shared with us his passions for motorcycles, storm chasing, guns, hunting, fishing, skiing, boating, scuba diving, and fast cars. Moving to Ingleside, TX, in 2021, Mackie found a new passion in beachcombing, which he would indulge in frequently with his wife, Mary, and his family. He very much enjoyed watching ships enter the harbor, hunting for sea beans, and exploring the fascinating and unusual ocean treasures found during his beachcombing adventures.

Mackie's loving wife, children, mother, siblings, and immediate and extended family all live to keep his legacy alive. Mackie was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents, his father, Carl Buck, and his cherished Doberman, Moby (his "Velcro Pup," as he would say).

Special thanks to the hospice company, Nurses on Wheels, specifically case managers Sundi and Barbara, for the love, the care, the comfort, and the support. Their compassion was selfless and genuine in Mackie's final days, and as a family, we couldn't be more grateful to have had such a blessing.

A service honoring Mackie's life will be at 3:00 PM on Monday, January 27, 2025, at First Baptist Church, 1403 13th St., Wilson, TX 79381. In lieu of flowers, consider donations to your choice of hospice, fire/EMS service, or charity.
