Margaret R (Dement) Backhurst

Margaret Backhurst, age 71, passed away on May 7, 2022.

She was born in Great Mills, MD to Harry Dement and Letha Dement. She married William Backhurst of Canton, Ohio on December 15, 1979 and William adopted her son Jason.

She was preceded in death by Harry Dement (father), Letha Dement (mother), Wanda Norris (sister), and William Backhurst (husband).

She is survived by her sister Hazel Starr and husband Terry their two daughters Maria and Mandi, her sister Joyce Jones, her brother Stewart Dement and wife Rose, her son Jason Backhurst and wife Cassie, and her grandsons Christopher and Zachary and his wife Jaicey.

Margaret was at her happiest when she was caring for others, whether it be her husband Bill when he fell ill with cancer, or her grandsons Chris and Zach when they were young boys, or taking care of young children at the daycare she worked at with her sister Hazel. Margaret was a very generous and caring person, she always put others before herself and would help family and strangers alike when they were in a time of need. She was a very loving daughter, sister, mother, and grandmother. She wore her heart on her sleeve for all to see and didn't hide her emotions. She was an animal lover and never met someone's pet that didn't automatically gravitate towards her and bond with her. Margaret was a hard worker her entire life and always pushed to do her best in every job she worked throughout her lifetime. She owned her own cleaning business for many years; all her clients adored her and appreciated her hard work ethic. She will be missed by all that knew her and loved her.
