Mark Von Villas Obituary

Mark C. VonVillas, born December 21, 1964, died peacefully with his family by his side on June 14th, 2022 in his home in Rockport, TX after a brief, arduous battle with esophageal cancer.

Mark was born in Tiverton, RI where he grew up working a paper route, riding his bike to the ocean, playing street hockey in his neighborhood, and competing on state and regional championship baseball teams with his close friends. Upon graduating from Tiverton High School in 1982, he went on to play two years of baseball for the University of Rhode Island, later transferring and earning a degree in English and a teaching certification at Rhode Island College. After several years of teaching, Mark moved to South Texas, where he pivoted his professional life.

For over 20 years, Mark led Scott Telecom, a division of Scott Electric Company based in Corpus Christi, TX. At Scott, he was surrounded by colleagues who came to know his humor, work ethic, and his ability to build community. He was a mentor to young people in his field, a role he learned to love as a coach and teacher of English Language Arts. A lover and writer of poetry, he often opened a journal to jot down something beautiful or deeply thoughtful for those he loved, or of life lessons he learned. He wrote and spoke of how deeply proud he was of his children and grandchildren and always expressed his love for them.

Mark was creative, funny, tidy, handy, affectionate and compassionate. He had a beautiful singing voice and was a life-long listener of music, always looking for live performances. Mark could often be found at his workbench singing along to the radio, designing, building, or repairing things. Or in his yard dreaming up the "sanctuary" he created and shared with his wife, Evalee, with whom he cherished a deep friendship, "big love", and a life rich in music and laughter for 24 years.

Mark is survived by his loving wife Evalee VonVillas of Rockport, TX, his parents Regina and Michael VonVillas, of Tiverton, RI, sisters Erica VonVillas also of Tiverton, and Kristan Housholder of Virginia Beach, VA. He leaves behind his daughter Jessica Dickerson and her husband Joshua of Vernon, CT, and son Ryan VonVillas and his partner Helen of Tiverton, RI. "Pops's" legacy lives on in his five young grandchildren, Keegan, Nolan, Jacob, Evan, and Jenna, along with many sisters and brothers-in-law, aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews by whom he was deeply loved.

A celebration of Mark's life will take place on Saturday, July 23rd from 6:30pm to sundown on Mustang Beach- Marker 37, Port Aransas, TX. All who knew and loved Mark are welcome. Bring your coolers, swimsuits, and loving memories.
