Ricardo "Richard" Benavides, Sr., age 84 of Portland, Texas, died peacefully at home on May 21, 2024 after a courageous pancreatic cancer journey. He was a lifelong resident of the Corpus Christi, Texas area and one of six siblings born to the late Manuel Benavides and the late Julia G. Benavides. A man of immense humor and wisdom, he cherished every moment spent with his loved ones. His passion for the game of golf led him to name one of his daughters after professional golfer Nancy Lopez.
He is survived by sons: Ricardo "Rick" Benavides, Jr. of Brownsville, Texas, Paul Benavides of Lakeland, Florida and Mario Benavides of Portland, Texas; daughters: Cyndi Benavides of Franklin, Tennessee, Nancy (Nick) Gurk of Portland, Texas and Celeste "Randi" (Monte) Liscano of Portland, Texas; grandchildren: Ricardo "Rico" Benavides, III, Katie Zierhut, Ashley Koehler, Milla Parson, Dakota Parson, Zoey Gurk, Nicholas Liscano, Aiden Liscano and LylaBelle Liscano; many great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Ann Benavides, former spouse Mary Helen Benavides, grandson Nicholas "Nico" Benavides and siblings: Elsa Arguijo, Ramiro Benavides, Manuel Benavides, Jr., Roy Benavides, Sr. and Mario Benavides.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 AM on July 27, 2024 at GracePoint Portland Church in Portland, Texas with interment of ashes at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Corpus Christi, Texas at a later date.
