Robert (Neb) Nebeling passed into the hands of our Lord on July 8, 2025. He was 94 at the time of his death due to natural causes. Neb was a longtime resident of Corpus Christi, Texas. He was born at Fort Sill, Oklahoma in Comanche County on May 26, 1931, to Henry Nebeling and Margaret (McHenry) Nebeling both deceased. He was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years Lolita Sue (Whittemore) Nebeling, son Robert Nebeling Jr., his sister Margaret (Peggy) Nebeling Moore, brothers Henry (Junior) Nebeling, John (Jim) Nebeling, Paul Nebeling and Thomas Nebeling.
Robert graduated from St. Mary's in Lawton, Oklahoma and joined the United States Navy in May 1949. He met the love of his life, Lolita Sue Whittemore, while serving as an Air traffic controlman at NAS Corpus Christi in 1952. They married on January 17, 1953. Neb and Sue welcomed five children into the family: Robert Nebeling Jr (deceased), Paul Nebeling, Ann Jane Nebeling Davis (Thomas Wayne Davis), Mary Sue Nebeling Miller (George Thomas Miller, Jr.), and Sara Fae Nebeling Ussery (Thomas Alan Ussery). Neb and Sue were proud grandparents to Stacy Ann Davis (Joseph Dyland Roberts), Amanda Kay Miller Duren (Steven Duren), Leland Forrest Miller, Geoffrey Leigh Ussery, and Terrence Alan Ussery. They were great grandparents to Ryleigh Duren, Paige Duren, and Pecos Duren. They are survived by numerous nephews and nieces throughout the United States.
Neb retired from the U.S. Navy as a Chief Petty Officer after more than 20 years of service. His travels saw him serving on board the USS Randolph and the USS Coral Sea. Neb had the distinction of serving at McMurdo Sound Naval Air Station located in Antarctica to support the International Geophysical Year. During his time at McMurdo, he had the pleasure of serving with Sir Edmund Hillary. Neb was the recipient of several medals including the Antarctica Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal and several Good Conduct Awards. He was a life-member of the 40 & 8 and the American Legion. Robert had a second career in offshore navigational aids until his full retirement in 1996.
Robert, also known as Neb, Bob, or Papa will be missed by all.
Neb and Sue will be interned at the Coastal Bend Veterans Cemetery on Friday August 1, 2025 at 2:00 pm.
