Roberta “Cookie” D. Crossman Michaels quietly departed this life at her residence on November 4, 2024. She was a cherished figure known for her radiant smile, whimsical sense of humor, and distinctive character. A devoted follower of Christianity and a devoted mother, Cookie consistently endeavored to offer her love, guidance, and support to her family.
Cookie was an integral part of the Ingleside community for over five decades. She devoted her musical talents to the service of the Lord, playing the organ at St. Mary’s Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Aransas Pass, Texas, and Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church in Ingleside, Texas. Her musical contributions were a source of joy at numerous weddings, Quinceaneras, and funerals, enriching the lives of many. Cookie was actively engaged with St. Vincent DePaul and the Women’s Altar Society, demonstrating her commitment to service. As a dedicated band parent for all five of her children, she also took on the role of softball coach for the Ingleside Little League Phillies. Cookie was a devoted member of the Women of the Moose Chapter #1972 and the Moose Lodge #2063 in Aransas Pass, Texas, where she treasured her active involvement in the lives of her children, grandchildren, and dear friends.
Throughout her life, Cookie embraced various roles with unwavering loyalty and dedication. In the 1980s, she served as a photographer for the Rockport Herald Newspaper and, for over 30 years, managed local convenience stores.
As the third of six siblings, she is preceded in death by her parents, John and Frances Crossman of Riverside, Rhode Island, and her siblings, Richard Hertford, Beverly Crossman, and Robert Crossman. She is survived by her brother, David (Delma) Crossman, and sister, Elizabeth (Kenneth) Sirmalis.
Cookie and Melvin Michaels Sr. were proud parents of five beautiful children: Catherine (Christopher) Humphrey, Carrie (Harry) De Leon, Arthur John (Jane Elizabeth) Michaels, Melvin Michaels Jr., and Christine (Robert) Baugher.
She cherished the precious moments spent with her grandchildren: Justin (Natalie) Humphrey, Madison Humphrey, Andrea De Leon, Anthony (Kaylee) De Leon, Sarah, Haley, Arthur, Jimmie, Elizabeth Michaels, Beau, Jax, Railin Michaels, Marc Jimenez, Michael (Fabbie) Jimenez, and Emily Jimenez of Ingleside, along with her great-grandchildren, Emily De Leon, Selah Jimenez, and Francesca Jimenez. She is also survived by her cousin Marie Urban and numerous nieces and nephews.
Cookie's absence will be profoundly felt by all who had the privilege of knowing and loving her.
A Celebration of Life will be held to honor the life of Roberta "Cookie" Michaels on November 16, 2024 at 2:00 PM at The Moose - Aransas Pass Lodge 2063.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, December 21, 2024, 11:00 AM at St. Mary's Star of the Sea in Aransas Pass, Texas. A reception will follow immediately after mass.
