Rosario Martinez Obituary

Rosario Alicia Martinez, also known as Chayo or Rosie, passed away peacefully on December 21, 2023, at Christus Spohn Shoreline in Corpus Christi, Texas, at the age of 69. She was born on January 12, 1954, in Corpus Christi, to Francisco Villegas and Petra Soto.

Rosario was a very caring and giving person who always opened her home to anyone in need. Her hospitality was unmatched, as she warmly welcomed and offered food and drink to visitors. She had a compassionate nature and never turned away anyone needing help. Rosario's loved ones will cherish the fond memories they have of her, especially during holidays and special occasions, which will never be the same without her.

One of Rosario's greatest joys was preparing delicious dishes for her family and friends. Her infamous menudo and tamales brought everyone together, and she would whip up a pot of homemade caldo when someone was sick, praying over them and blessing them for a speedy recovery. She was a dedicated mother and wife, fiercely protective of her five children, whom she worked tirelessly to support.

Rosario met her first husband, Guillermo Willie Martinez Sr. while attending Roy Miller High School. They married in 1972 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, followed by a reception at the historic Galvan Ballroom. Together, they welcomed five children into the world: Guillermo Willie Martinez Jr., Priscilla Marie Martinez, Ricky Joe Martinez, Christopher Michael Martinez, and Brenda Michelle Martinez. Sadly, on October 19, 2004, Rosario lost her husband after 32 years of marriage.

In 2008, at 54, Rosario embraced a new chapter in her life when she became a mother again to her seventh grandchild, Jennifer Martinez. God had a plan for Rosario and blessed her with a second husband, Rafael Velazquez, who became her backbone and strength. They married in 2009 at Victory Life Fellowship, where Rosario found solace in her faith. Rafael lovingly accepted Rosario's family and friends unconditionally, becoming a great blessing to her and the rest of the family.

Rosario's best friend, Linda Abrego, was more like family. They met at work, Corpus Christi State School, and supported each other through life's ups and downs. Linda was by Rosario's side during the loss of her first husband and remained a loyal friend until the end. Her presence at every special event and unwavering support meant the world to Rosario and her entire family. The family would like to extend a HUGE "Thank You" to Linda for everything she did throughout the years.

Rosario will be deeply missed by her husband, Rafael Angel Velazquez, and her five children: Guillermo Willie Martinez Jr. (Marissa Martinez), Priscilla Marie Martinez-Garcia (Johnny Garcia), Ricky Joe Martinez, Christopher Michael Martinez, Brenda Michelle Martinez (Juan Morales), her step-son Javier Velazquez. She will also be fondly remembered by her grandchildren: Lucio Rodriguez, Aaron Martinez, Ariana Martinez, Valerie Alexandria Martinez, Amaris Raine Martinez, Jacob Martinez, Taylor Boehm, Jennifer Martinez, Brianna Martinez, Guillermo Martinez, Carlos Martinez, Daniella Morales, and Andrea Morales and one great-grand child, Mathew Valverde.

Rosario was preceded in death by her parents, Francisco Villegas and Petra Soto, her stepmother Alicia Villegas, her first husband, Guillermo Willie Martinez Sr., her first-born twin, Tony Jr. Martinez, her first granddaughter, Kristina Martinez, and her sisters, Clara Sanchez, Francis Rocha, and Ana Rivera.

Rosario dedicated her career to the Corpus Christi State School, where she worked until her retirement. Her commitment to her work and the lives she impacted will be remembered by her colleagues and the individuals she served.

Throughout her life, Rosario Martinez was a follower of Christ and attended various denominational churches, including Catholic, Jehovah's Witness, Pentecostal, and Christian. She eventually settled on the Christian faith and found a spiritual home at Victory Life Fellowship.

As per Rosario's wishes, no services will be held. She was cremated by All Faith Cremation and Funeral Services, located in Corpus Christi, Texas. The family would like to thank All Faith Cremation and Funeral Services for their assistance during this time.

Rosario Alicia Martinez will forever be remembered for her unwavering love, generosity, and dedication to her family and friends. Her legacy of kindness and compassion will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her.
