Ruby Marie (Rusling) Nelson

Ruby Marie Rusling Shannon Nelson passed through the Heavenly gates on June 21, 2023.

Marie was born on December 21, 1936 to Joseph Loris Rusling and Ruby Mae Brister Rusling, the second of five children. Marie was welcomed by brother, Joseph Seaborne. Together they welcomed Kathryn (Katy) Rosella, George Raymond, and Norman David.

Growing up, the family lived in Gonzales County, Texas, Port Lavaca, Texas, and Three Rivers, Texas. Marie always spoke of her trips to the ice plant after school in Port Lavaca. She loved going and talking to all the men who worked there.

Marie met Johnnie Richard (Sonnie) Shannon in Three Rivers, Texas during the summer of 1951. She was just 14 years old. After dating just three months , they were married in Pleasanton, Texas on October 26, 1951. Together they had five children, Richard Wayne of Moulton, Texas, Lorelei Gail (Chuck) Lander of Rockport, Texas, Clayton Dale (Tina) of Gonzales, Texas, Patricia Elaine Stokes of Houston, Texas, and Justin Dean (Betty) of Jourdanton, Texas. Marie has a bonus daughter, Yvonne Nelson (John) Brandt of Arlington, VA, from her second marriage to John Nelson.

After her children were all in school, Marie worked various jobs from being a waitress, a seamstress, inspector in a pants factory, as a custodian, many church nurseries, and care giver to many. Perhaps her favorite and best accomplishment was her devotion to God's church and His congregation.

Preceding her in death were her parents, both husbands, all four siblings, three brothers-in-law, three sisters-in-law, one great grandson, and one great great granddaughter.

Those left to cherish her memory are two sisters-in-law, all five children, step-daughter, 15 grandchildren; Patrice Clawson and Jeremy Clawson, both from Bastrop, Texas. Christina Irle (Danny) Aschenbeck, Catina Irle (Bobby) Kistler, Tiffany Irle, and Kimberely Irle, all of Gonzales, Texas, Holly Shannon(Greg) Young of New Braunfels, Texas, Jody Dale (Wendy) Shannon of Alvin, Texas, Jessi Nixon (Ryan) Brennan of Anna, Texas, Tristin Shannon of Jourdanton, Texas,Wendy Stokes(Josh) Ripley of Round Rock, Texas, Joshua Stokes of Houston, Texas, Amanda Stokes (Patrick) Redford of Indianapolis, Indiana, Alexander Brandt and Anne Brandt, both of Arlington, VA, and one step-grandson, Sean Lander of Houston, Texas. She has 26 great grandchildren, 15 great great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on July 29, 2023 at Faith Christian Center, 1020 E. Jeff Cowley St., Freer TX 78357
