Samuel Wiley Higgins

The man, the myth, the legend - the one and only, Samuel W. Higgins, passed away peacefully, and entirely too soon,at his home in Corpus Christi, Texas, on October 8, 2024. Sam leaves behind a legacy rich in laughter, music, love, and adventure. He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Higgins, and his brother, Adam S. Higgins. Sam is survived by his devoted wife of over 41 years, Darla Rae Higgins, and a large, loving family.

Sam's children include son Robert Baker and wife Devonie, son Ryan Higgins, daughter Melissa Bratton and husband James Hamilton, son Travis Rasmussen and wife Laura, daughters Penelope Higgins and Miriah Forester, as well as his beloved puppy, Ember. He is also survived by his mother, Eileen J. Nimmo; brother Charles "Wes" Higgins and wife Twanee; and his cherished grandchildren: Zane R. Hill, Kaytlynn and Noah Rasmussen, and Lydia Rae Gonzalez.

Sam deeply loved, and was deeply loved by, his many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and "bonus" children who came into his life in beautiful and unexpected ways, as well as his enormous circle of friends who will remember him fondly.

Known for his warm, open spirit, Sam never met a stranger. A talented musician, avid reader, expert flounder stalker, and lifelong motorcycle enthusiast (aka: "biker dude"), Sam loved cross-country rides, old Westerns, and just about any movie from the previous centuries; if it was in color, it was too modern. A true renaissance man with a million stories (some of them possibly true), Sam is an irreplaceable presence in the hearts of all who knew him.

So there he was, cruising along in his flying, electric cement mixer when-would you believe it?-he ran out of cement ...
