Stonewall Van Wie III Obituary

Stonewall Van Wie III passed away on April 25, 2021. Although his family and friends will miss him greatly and grieve, they also rejoice that he is free from pain and earthly bonds. He was born in San Antonio, Texas on November 22, 1940 to Dr. Stonewall Van Wie, Jr. and Winnie Lee (Jackson) Van Wie.

Stonewall was a proud alumni of the University of Texas (1963), and University of Texas Law School (1965). Stonewall worked as an Attorney from 1965 to 2000. He also worked at Del Mar College for 40 years since his initial employment as an adjunct instructor of the Legal Assisting Program in 1973. His commitment to the College, to his colleagues, to his staff, and to his students was evident while he served as a faculty member, as the Chairperson of the Legal Professions Department, and as the Interim Dean of the Business Division.

Stonewall was a Scoutmaster for Troop 327 from 1978 -1982. He and his wife, Pamella, participated in the Annual Renaissance Faire which included the medieval tradition of dancing, jousting tournaments, and arts and crafts. He was a member of the Society of Creative Anachronism (SCA). Stonewall loved walking and was an avid reader. He also enjoyed traveling.

Stonewall Van Wie III is preceded in death by his parents Dr. Stonewall Van Wie, Jr. And Winnie Lee (Jackson) Van Wie, his wife, Pamella Margo (Case) Van Wie, and two stepsons, Calvin Robert Case and William Shawn Bourland. He is survived by his son Stonewall "Stoney" (Sherrie) Van Wie IV, his stepdaughter Juli An Renee (Ray) Propp and stepson Justin Lane (Deidra) Bourland. Grandchildren: Kimberly Ann (Jake) Propp-Perez, Aaron Ray Propp, Heather Paige Bourland, Madison Nicole Bourland, Megan Ann Bourland, Amber Ashley (Denny) Bourland-Flores, Briana Blair (Andrew) Cruz, Caitlin Faye Case, and ten great grandchildren.

In lieu of funeral services and flowers, the family has requested that donations be sent to DMC Foundation Office - Ed Cohn Business Scholarship.
