Venus Mcelvany Obituary

It is with great sadness that the family of Venus Joy McElvany announces her sudden passing on October 11th, 2024 at the age of 73.

Venus was born in Sinton, TX on October 16th, 1950 to Betty Jo Jackson (Elliott) and Willys Okley Jackson.

She was known by many in the San Patricio community as the veterinary assistant to Doctor Rieger of the San Patricio Animal Clinic. Shortly after opening her own grooming business, Venus's Pet Stop, in the late 70's, she joined Doc at the Clinic in 1984. For over half her life (40 years) she provided services to the clinic's clients and their furry friends; grooming, boarding, and assisting Doc. She was a friendly fixture, rarely missing a single day. She enjoyed her work and those it brought her close to. The people who came into the clinic were not just clients, many became not only her friends, but practically family and she was always happy to see those that had taken the time to share their lives with her.

She was also a longtime member of the Portland Church of Christ, where she attended regularly with her husband, daughter and son-in-law, her grandchildren, and her great grandchildren.

She was devoted to her family. She never went a day without at least sending a text or giving a call to her daughter, and she took the time several times a week to share a meal with her family and dote on her two great granddaughters.

Venus will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 57 years, Mark McElvany, and her daughter, Hope Davenport (Michael), her three grandchildren; Jared, Shaelei (Andrew), and Logan, her two great grandchildren; Seraphina (7), and Arabella (2 Months), her sister, Aunie Davis (Wayne), her nephews, Brayden and Corbin, her cousin, Karen Jackson, and many more.

As per her wishes, there will be a private casting ceremony. As Doc said, "Despite her charisma she had a humble sort of shyness." She enjoyed being a part of things, but never the center. We hope that those who loved her will take their own private moment to remember her as she was. She was an immense influence on our daily lives. No day will ever be the same without her.
